Our Story

Sugar Thumb Studio was born from Theresa’s passion for baking and creating art, as well as her desire to share it with like-minded people. In our studio we want to give you a space where you can come in feeling curious and leave with a deep sense of pride and accomplishment that comes from making something with your own hands. Our events are designed to provide premium, creative experiences that spark joy and bring people together through the art of cake decoration.

Theresa began with “Sweet Pea Cakes,” a custom cake business known for its delicate, handcrafted designs and thoughtful details. Born from a spark of inspiration, she founded Sugar Thumb Studio — a place where anyone, not just bakers, could experience the joy, creativity, and calming artistry that influenced her own path. Sweet Pea Cakes taught her that cakes bring people together, and Sugar Thumb Studio was her way of expanding that concept even further.

Meet Theresa

Hi, I’m Theresa, the founder of Sugar Thumb Studio. I’m a self-taught cake artist with a love for teaching, creating, and working with my hands. To me, cake is a form of art — a tactile, expressive medium that invites connection, play, and imagination. I dreamed of a studio space that felt creative and heartfelt, where people could gather, slow down, and make something beautiful together. When I couldn’t find it, I built it.

Sugar Thumb Studio is that place — part art studio, part creative playground — where modern cake design and artistic techniques come to life in an inspiring, approachable way. My hope is that you leave feeling connected, proud of what you created, and just a little more inspired than when you arrived.

The Sugar Thumb Studio Experience

At Sugar Thumb Studio, everything is prepared for you—so you can show up, relax, and enjoy decorating.

All Decorating Supplies Provided

We supply everything you need, including buttercream, sprinkles, fondant details, piping bags, tips, spatulas, decorating tools, and aprons to help keep outfits clean. All materials are selected specifically for each event.

Ready-to-Decorate Cakes

Skip the mess! Each guest receives a pre-baked, crumb-coated cake that’s ready to decorate. Cake size and design style vary depending on the experience you choose.

Guided Instruction

Events are led by a professional cake decorator who walks you through each step, with hands-on help throughout the session. No experience needed!

Relaxed Atmosphere

Enjoy music and an easygoing environment designed to make decorating fun, creative, and stress-free.

Take Your Cake Home

At the end of the experience, your finished cake will be carefully boxed for you to take home and enjoy.
